Africa should own the value chain, not just the ore.

Leviathan Group builds the case, and the capital, for Africa-owned champions in power, materials, food and finance.

Read the thesis

Africa sells the ore. Others keep the value.

Cobalt leaves as ore and returns as batteries. Cocoa leaves as beans and returns as chocolate. The margin, the jobs and the technology stay elsewhere.

For a century, the continent has exported what it digs and grows, and imported what others make from it.

We believe Africa must own entire value chains. Not a mine, a farm or a plant in isolation, but the whole chain, from ground to finished product to the capital that funds it.

Where the state has not built the champions this demands, patient private capital must. Scale does not appear by itself. It has to be assembled, financed and defended.

That power carries a debt. We will ask for protection only when it is conditional, temporary and tied to export and productivity milestones. Trade inside Africa stays open. Our commitments are published, and you can hold us to them.

What would change our mind. Evidence that protected champions in these sectors stay uncompetitive after their protection ends, or that open markets reach the same outcomes faster.

Four layers of an industrial economy

We start where the stack begins. Each layer depends on the one beneath it, and each is a place where Africa now sells the input and buys back the product.

Power

The layer beneath the rest

No factory, refinery or processing plant runs without reliable, affordable energy. Power is the constraint that decides which chains can be built at all, and who owns the generation and transmission decides who captures the value above it.

Materials

Critical minerals to batteries

The continent holds minerals the energy transition depends on, and most leave as concentrate. Our flagship case is beneficiation: refining, precursor and cell manufacturing on African soil, owned by African capital.

Food

Agriculture to processing

Processing is where agriculture turns into industrial employment at scale. Beans, grain, fruit and fibre that are exported raw carry their margin abroad. Storage, processing and distribution are the missing middle.

Capital

Financial infrastructure

Champions need patient, long-dated, local-currency funding, and the payment and settlement systems that connect African markets to each other. Our work here is policy analysis and advocacy.

The covenant

Leviathan Group is at an early stage. These commitments bind us from the start, and we will add detail and measures as the work grows.

Who is behind this

Leviathan Group was founded by Ntuthuko, a student of politics, philosophy and economics building institutions for African industrial sovereignty.

It is a one-person project today. It is designed to become a collective of operators, investors and policymakers who share the thesis.

Build it with us

If you work in one of these chains, fund industrial projects, or shape policy, write to us.
